    Forum Description

    Many students who are interested in the healthcare field falsely believe that only physicians make over $100,000. There are many other healthcare professionals that easily make over $100,000, including nurses and physician assistants. However, to be a nurse or a physician assistant making over $100,000, you need years of appropriate training and certification. CRNA – Certified Nurse Anesthetist make over $160,000 annually   CRNAS spend 2-3 more years in school than RNs and LPNs, who do not need to earn a graduate degree. CRNAs require graduate level education and clinical training. They are responsible for monitoring and evaluating patient’s pain and vital signs during surgical procedures that require anesthesia. Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in nursing (or other appropriate baccalaureate degree);
    • Registered Nurse licensure in the U.S
    • a minimum of one-year critical care experience (for example, ICU)
    • completion of both an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program
    • and the national certification examination.
    Physician Assistant can make $100,000 annually Some Physician assistants can make more than a primary care physician in some areas in the United States. Physician assistants also have the ability to Requirements to PA Program:
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Taking pre-med classes including biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology.
    • a minimum of one-year healthcare experience in a clinical setting (i.e Scribe)
    A PA program is typically 3 years and they typically award a master’s degree upon completion. The curriculum is similar to a medical school curriculum, in that you have to first learn the basic sciences and then complete a clinical experience in a variety of specialties. Once graduating, you must complete the PANCE (Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam) and then you can become certified. After certification, you must receive a state license in order to practice in the state you are residing in. Although PA programs are 3 years and medical school is 4 years, medical graduates must complete a minimum 3 year residency after medical school. Many students who are weighing their decision between PA programs or medical school, they forget the length of residency training after medical school. The good news is that the job market for physician assistants keep growing. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts that employment of PAs in the United States will grow by 38 percent between 2012 and 2020. Physician assistants play a key role in assessing patients, treating patients under the supervision of a physician, and writing prescriptions under a physician. Dentists make on average $160,000 a year   Dentists have a similar education track as medical school, with dental school being 4 years and after graduating there are many options including specialization or working for a private practice. Requirements to Dental school:
    • Bachelor's degree
    • DAT exam
    • a minimum of one-year healthcare experience in a clinical setting
    There are other professions that also make over 100,000 including nurse practitioners and pharmacists.  Although the road is long in order to become a health professional, remember Confucius wise words: Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. References:
